I totally agree with my classmate on this issue. Pretty soon most of the state of texas will be filled with mexican americans, but were are they really hiding, how come we dont see mexican americans running for office. i think it is kind of weird how there are so many of us, but barely any to represent us.i believe we only need some one that can step up to the challenge and just go from there.

I found this editorial called "State Board of education poised to embarras Texas again" in the Austinamericanstatesman.com. The article talks about the board to end its efforts to force religious doctrine into public schools, and the votes being taken to have a a more extended science curriculum and an extension in the books students use. The debate is being cause, because the State board wants to require students to be taught strengths and weaknesses of scientific theories as early as middle school. 95 percent of college science and biolgy teachers oppose to this, because they believe the "strenghts and weaknesses" clause is only going to confuse students by inserting a religious doctrine into teh study of science. i realy dont think this is a good idea, becuase it is already complicated enough when a student is in middle school to deal with algebra and those harder classes, and on top of that having extra sciene being teached. i believe the evolution and advanced science should be taught at higher levels, like high school and college, to learn more visit http://www.statesman.com/opinion/content/editorial/stories/11/22/1122sboe_edit.html

I am commenting on the Texas Blogbonnet blog, which talks about the upcoming weekend of halloween and the drinking that will be involved in downtown Austin. The Austin Police Department has a new program that involves drawing blood from any drivers suspected of being intoxicated.Drivers will be asked to take the regular breathalyzer test, how ever if they refuse to do so, they will be forced to have blood drawn from them on the spot.I believe this is a great idea the Police Department came up with, because drunk drivers put them selves and every driver out there in danger. Im sure alot of people are not overwhelmed with the fact of getting a needle in them if they have only had a few beers, but like she said, the breathalyzer will be used first, so if you dont have nothing to hide, you should not worry about getting poked. i think she did a great job of putting the post together, it explains very detailed what the APD plans on doing, and what she thinks of these plans. i also agree with her with the idea of enforcing this program past halloween, i think it will highly reduce the drinking and driving and the accidents cause by drunk drivers.

Corporate influence in Texas Elections?? EXpect it!!

In 2002 a state law banned corporations and unions from spending money on election campaigns for a century, but now courts tell us that they can spend as much money as they wat on advertising, as long as they dont take favor on a particular candidate. Corporations are not going to report their spending to the Texas Ethics Commission, or even inform us of who is paying for all the advertising. Earlier this week The Texas Association of Business was fined and Bill Hammond president of The Association pleaded guilty against the misdemeanor charge. They were fined 10,000 dollars, which doesnt not compare at all to the 1.7 million hammond and his partners raised last year from 30 corporations, which helped 24 house candidates. In 1905 the Texas legislature irst banned corporate campaign contributions. Later the courts in the Texas association of Business gaave corporations the right to spend money on campaigns. i think corporations should be allowed to spend monay on campaigns, as long as they dont completely back up jus one campaign and focus all their attention on it, because it would not make it a fair race.

Time For Change in Texas Supreme Court

In this editorial from the Austin American Statesman, the author talks about what is going on in the Texas Supreme Court. Three of the nine seats in the Texas Supreme Court are up for electin this year and all three of the seats are expected to be filled by a Republicans even thoug they are facing great Democratic challengers. The chief justice spots are the ones up for election this year, while some of them have been caught in embarrasing acts, like using politiacl money for their own expenses, this year is goin to end for them says the article. Going against Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson, is the Democrat out of Dallas county, Jim Jordan, Jordan believes Jefferson has a failure of leadership. Some people on the other hand think that Jefferson has done a good job, but like everything, there are always two sides to the conflict. All three Democrats believe that is time for a change becuase all Republicans in office think alike and make the same decisions. I agree with the author, maybe it is time for a change in Supreme Court and maybe if they win, this would be big win and change for the Democrats. Texan Teachers Deserve Better Pay!!

The Austin American Statesman stated on September 27th, that more than 4 million sudents returned to attend classes a few weeks ago, at public schools. According to Eddie Rodriguez, the State Rep, our public schools teachers are the lowest paid in the nation and should be given a significant raise. The article stated that During 2006-2007 Texas paid 6,000 dollars less than the naional average of about 50,000. Last year Democras fought for an 800 dollar raise, that was given to teacher, but after being reviewed by the Republicans, it was cut in half to 425. Scjools were also given the opportunity to raise property taxes by 4%, which pay for school to run.I totally agree with the author, i think this is very important for us Texans, because we are loosing very good teachers and missing out on a great education because teachers are just not geting paid what they deserve. If it was not for Public school teachers, most of todays great doctors, bussiness man, etc, would of never made it anywhere, without education and with out those hard working teachers. According to the www, The Texas Railroad Commission, which at one point controlled and regualted railroads, but now is in charge of the oil an gas industry, is asking for $750,000 to process permits and reduce bureaucratic delays. Commission spokesman Ramona Nye, says they have not seen this kind of drilling permits since 1985, the officials expect to issue 29,000 permits this year, almost 50 percent more from 2007.Usually it would take aound 40 days to be given a drilling permit, but since 2007 that time has been decreased to 14 to 21 days. These long delays are costing major dollars says Ben Shepperd, the executive vice president of the Permian Basin Pretroleum Association. This drilling permits will allow advocates of the oil industry to explore and try to pump out as much oil as they can from the ground. Dewhurst says the delays are due to a shortage in personnel, the other thing they need to know is how much they need in order to do something. Elected members of the commission were expected to consider the proposal on Sept. 9. We should all look into this article, because it affects our pockets when we pay for gas at the pump. Look more into it here. http://www.statesman.com/news/content/region/legislature/stories/09/20/0920oil.html
